Description

If you’re put offfull metal SMG-5s because of their immense weight, this high density polymer alternative should suit you perfectly! The Golden EagleSMG-5 A5 RAS replicates the iconic SMG design in its RAS configuration, with 20mm Picatinny rails at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock on the handguard, ready for your mission essential accessories. Up front, we have a QD flash hider mounted to a threaded tri-lug muzzle device, giving you loads of tracer and suppressor mountingoptions straight out of the box.

On the inside, the G.E SMG-5 is modestly equipped but surprisingly potent for the price. The internals are based around the Tokyo Marui SMG-5, meaning a version 2 gearbox, slider adjustable HOP-up unit and full compatibility with aftermarket TM spec upgrade parts. Improving on the originalTM design,Golden Eagle has added 7mm ball bearing bushings into the mix for reduced friction, increased rate of fire and a smoother gearbox report.Another nice little sweetener is the platform’s 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel which raises FPS and improves accuracy, saving you a few quid when it comes time to upgrade!

If you love a classic SMG in lightweight format, this should please you! The Golden Eagle SMG-5 A5 RAS Submachine Gun AEG is based on an iconic SMG design we all know and love in its RASconfiguration, boasting 20mm Picatinny rails at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock on the handguard, a sliding stock and HKclaw mount compatible receiver.

Constructed almost entirely from high density polymer with a matt finish, this SMG-5 is one you won’t have to hit the gym to run all day long. The outer barrel, front sight, stock bars and controls are constructed from alloy to add strength where needed, though even with these additions, this SMG tips the scales at a minuscule 1.9KG. On the inside, we are treated to a 6.03mm tightbore barrel for improvements in accuracy and a slight FPSboost, and the steel 18;1 gearset runs on 7mm ball bearing bushings for reduced friction, increased ROF and a smoother gearbox sound.

Starting at the front, we have a quick detachable flash hider constructed from alloy and mounted to a threaded tri-lug muzzle device. This gives you the choice of running the SMG-5 in its modern configuration with the flash hider mounted, or in the more classic config with the tri-lug device only. Removing the flash hider is super simple; all you need to do is push the serrated locking latch out and rotate it into the slot in the flash hider, after which it can be removed.

The tri-lug device allows you to mount tri-lug compatible suppressors but these are quite rare. Fortunately, Golden Eagle saw fit to provide 14mm CCW male threads at the tip of the tri-lug so you can mount any 14mmCCWthreaded suppressor for the sneaky look or a tracer unit for an instinct-aiming advantage in CQB.

The muzzle device mounts to the front sight assembly which includes the front iron sight, protected on all sides with a protective ring, and a sling loop on the right side, ready to be paired with the rear sling point to mount a two-point sling. The front sight assembly and sling loop are constructed from alloy to provide ample strength to support the SMG-5 no matter what equipment you have mounted to its RAShandguard.

Being the “RAS” model of the SMG-5, this subgun is rocking a close replica of the real steelKACRAShandguard, boasting 20mm Picatinnyrails at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. The handguard is constructed from alloy and provides numerically marked rail slots so you can keep track of your preferred accessory mounting locations. Included in the box is a pair of KACstyle 20mm rail covers and a KACstyle stubby vertical foregrip, giving you a head start when it comes to kitting this beast out for war!

Above the handguard, we have what is known as the “cocking tube”, complete with cocking handle and the “safety notch”. This provides no function on an Airsoft AEG but is nonetheless included to keep this SMG-5 authentic to the real deal. Worth noting is that as fun as it is, we do not recommend doing the “HK slap” with this SMG as both the cocking tube and handle are polymer and may get damaged.

Moving rearwards we arrive at the receiver which follows the iconic SMG-5 format perfectly. The receiver is comprised of two parts, thesection known as the “upper receiver” and thelower section, known as the “trigger pack”. The fire selector is present on either side of the trigger pack and offers 3 modes of fire; safe, semi-automatic and fully automatic, with a 45-degree throw between fire modes. Each fire mode is indicated with the ever recognisable red and white bullet pictograms which first appeared on the “Navy” style SMG-5 trigger pack and now make their way onto most modern platforms in one form or another. Safe is indicated with a crossed-out projectile in white, semi with a single projectile in red and full auto is denoted with several red projectiles.

The grip itself is built into the trigger pack and is an ergonomic design with an enlarged trigger guard built in. This grip has been the subject of a lot of praise, and the shape and style match more modern platforms such as the AR36 and is widely credited with being the inspiration behind the highly popular MOE and MIAD grips for the M4/AR15. The trigger guard allows plenty of space for gloved shooters, and the trigger is a curved design matching the real SMG perfectly.

The magazine release is also ambidextrous, being a paddle-style release positioned just ahead of the trigger guard, making the SMG-5 A5 RASa fine choice for right or left-handed shooters. There is also a secondary magazine release over on the right side, on the magazine well in a similar position to that of the M4/AR-15. This gives you the option of two different magazine release styles, though we prefer the ambidextrous paddle release as the AR style release is a bit further from the grip than on an M4 and can be harder to reach for those with smaller hands.

Running along either side of the receiver we can see a groove which is the track in which the sliding stock indexes, serving both to keep the stock tight into the weapon when retracted, reinforce the receiver and provide tracks for the bolt carrier to move along on the inside of the real thing. At the top, we have a pair of lugs which allow for an SMG-5/G3 claw optics mount to be added if you want to mount a red dot sight or scope to the SMG-5 A5 RAS. These lugs are compatible with bothlow profileandhigh profileoptions.

The rear iron sight is located at the back of the receiver and is a rotary drum diopter-style sight, just like the real thing. The sight offers 4 different apertures for aiming, with the wider apertures being ideal for low-light situations and full auto fire, and the finer apertures are great for long-range shots and semi-automatic fire. Changing apertures is easy in any weather conditions thanks to the knurling at the top of the drum, simply turn the sight to the chosen position and it will lock into place under spring tension.

The stock of the SMG-5 A5 RASis the sliding typewith multiple positions of adjustment, matching the stock issued with the A3 and A5variants of the SMG-5. Thestock has3 positions of adjustment, one fully extended, one in the middle and then the storage position. The butt plate features pyramidal textureto provide extra grip for body armour-wearing users, meaning the stock won’t slip off your shoulder at an inopportune moment. Adjusting the stocksimply requires the lever at the end of the stock base to be pressed and the stock extended out to the desired position.

On the inside, the Golden Eagle SMG-5 A5 RASis equipped with a version 2 gearbox with an alloy shell and steel gears running on 7mm ball-bearing bushings for reduced friction and a smoother gearbox report. Also present inside is a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, improving accuracy potential and raising FPS with the same spring thanks to improvements in air seal. A quick change spring system is also present, meaning you can swap the spring to tune your muzzle energy without opening the gearbox shell. All of the internals are Tokyo Marui spec, meaning there are plenty of aftermarket upgrade options available for the performance seekers!

If you’re on a budget and want a classic design that isn’t an AR-15, the Golden Eagle SMG-5 A5 RAS should suit you perfectly. With plenty of 20mm Picatinny rails, the choice of tri-lug or 14mm CCW threaded suppressors and ambidextrous controls, this SMGis eternal!
