Winchester Single Shot .22 LR caliber pistol. Factory experimental single shot pistol. These were made in very limited quantity using model 1900 and 1902 actions. These were to be in production by 1919 but there is no evidence this took place. Bore has very light rifling. Blue on barrel and action is 95-97%. Frame was finished “in the white”. For additional examples of these very unusual experimental pistols, see The Winchester Book by George Madis page 567. Also, Winchester Repeating Arms Company by Herb Houze, page 202. In 38 years of selling thousands of Winchesters, we have handled perhaps 6 or 7 of these pistols. There are some variations that exist as to minor grip or frame differences. Some were marked with the Winchester address and some were with plain barrels. Our pistol has no Winchester markings or proofs. Our opinion is that these unmarked “pistols” were made early in the design process and markings were not used. (This appears to have been the case with other manufacturers who did not mark their experimental guns). Our opinion is that guns marked with the barrel address were made closer to the action time when Winchester was about to begin production. As mentioned previously, actual production never took place. These are uniquely designed pistols and a valued addition to a Winchester collection.
